I hope you have had a chance to enjoy some down time before summer moves into the fall season. “Hot” topics in the CG industry this year are revolving around integration and optimization – both as a means for becoming more streamlined as a company, and for leading to an improved value proposition.  These are areas in which RW3 specializes and has garnered wide industry recognition.  Our recent series of thought leadership articles are aimed at helping manufacturers assess the value of current In-Store retail practices while recognizing opportunities where improvements can be made.  (see sidebar)

As noted recently by Joe Skorupa, Group Editor-in-Chief of RIS News, “merchandising is the hottest category for immediate investment, along with the urgency of leveraging customer analytics.” RW3’s Agile Development process accelerates rapid delivery of uniquely effective, technology supported solutions that optimize merchandising processes AND utilize analytics to their highest potential.  Coupled with a business approach that aligns development with customer needs and company goals, we enable an integrated, automated, end-to-end workforce system which allows data to flow easily where and when it is needed.

On the mobile front, we reviewed the iPad last quarter, and have focused attention on Smartphone technology and its enterprise usage for business applications in this newsletter. Many companies are considering moving to mobile applications for their retail sales force, and we are happy to provide a sounding board as you explore your options.

The most important criteria for developing and maintaining an evolving and dynamic enterprise application is support for the software developer.  This article evaluates the four major Smartphone platforms for use in enterprise application development, including a look at Microsoft Windows Mobile 6, Android, iPhone and Blackberry.  All provide some degree of developer support, but due to the strong support for consumer (non-enterprise) applications by the first three and the consequent broad software development communities that have grown up around them – as well as the distinct lack of the same support for Blackberry – Blackberry is currently the least attractive platform for an enterprise developer. Additionally, Blackberry continues to lose market share to Android and iPhone, likely due in part to innovations from those two that increase an individual consumer’s productivity, such as superior mobile web browsers and multi-touch functionality.  While Blackberry is addressing ... Employee Spotlight: Brian Seelig
Senior Software Architect

Brian Seelig has been part of the RW3 Team since 2007, when he was hired into Tier 3 Support.  There, he worked on several customer systems and on a proof-of-concept project for a GPS mapping application for handheld devices. Later that year, Brian transitioned to the Development Team, where he is currently Senior Software Architect.  His first big projects involved design and implementation of NROC’s new backend to support check writing for trade spends and sales surveys, and a redesign of NROC’s offline Library application.  He has since worked on other customer systems including large projects for ConAgra Wal-Mart, Nestlé EMD, National Tobacco and Kellogg USA, as well as projects that were outsourced to teams in Russia.  ... Business on the Road

A busy Spring saw RW3 representation as judges at many SIFE Regional competitions, as well as at the National Competition in Minneapolis.  Our level of participation has grown to well over half of our employees having had the opportunity to be involved in SIFE events and become more familiar with the program.

RW3 was also represented at NACDS and the FMI Show, where Directors and Managers interfaced with clients and prospective customers, helping to understand their business needs and goals for improved in-store execution.  In addition, several customer meetings were held in our Austin office with many more taking place “on the road.”
